"It's not all about you. You got to take your ego out of it and think about what's best for this child. and you care enough to help them transition to what comes next and what's best."

Personal Childhood Web

I was raised in a single parent household. My mother and sister's were all I knew. I had friends growing up but none could compare to the love and friendship I have with my sisters. My mother was the backbone that held our immediate family together. She wanted nothing but the best for me and my sister's. When my two oldest sisters did not complete high school, I knew I would have to be the one who gave my mom the first high school diploma. But I did not stop there.

When my mom and dad passed within two years of each other, the bond between my sisters and I have grew tremendously. Its because of them that I feel their is nothing that I can not do. They are my biggest support system. Although I am the middle child my sisters continue to make a impact in my life. They continue to encourage me to accomplish my dreams to make our parents proud.

Loved by Many.. Chosen By a Few

I can tell that my students truly enjoy being in my classroom by our daily interactions. Everyday one of the children run up to me to share something that have made, found or for assistance. I have this one particular student who was beginning to receive speech services. The thing is her therapist would come during free play time. Well she was giving the therapist the blues. She did not want to cooperate with her therapist at all. So one day I spoke with her explaining to her that she the therapist is my friend and that she wants to help her with pronouncing her words.  I reassured her that it will be lots of fun and to try her hardest to cooperate. Well our little talked work. The very next session, she runs back into the classroom and tells me that she was on her best behavior and even told be about the games she played. This happened maybe two more times after our talk. It just warmed my heart to know that she was excited about helping her teacher's friend out by cooperating with her. Kids are the Greatest.
Children's Books

The Colors of Us
This is a great story to read to children about diversity. The author found a fun and creative way to describe the difference in skin tones of people in the neighborhood. After reading this story to my class, I gave them a mirror and asked them to describe their skin tones. It was amazing to see the children connect with the many shades mentioned in the story.

Mama, Do You Love Me!
In this story, the child asked his mother, to express how much they love them.  The mother begins to describe various ways how much she loves her child. I enjoyed reading this story of a mother and child expressing their love for each other.

The Children are the Curriculum

As educators we are to know exactly what our students are interested in and effective ways to get them to engage in learning through play. As teachers we are to teach and make every moment enjoyable for the children.

As a preschool teacher  you learn to help make young children smile. This is one of my students and its his first year in Head Start. My friend cried for almost two months before I could get him to smile. On this particular day I was capturing the children as they engaged in play. He runs up to me and says " Ms. Walker, you didn't take my picture". This was the first time I saw him smile while engaged with staff and children. For two months I reassured my friend that his parents were gonna come back. With the help of his parents, he is now able to transition into the class with out having a temper tantrum. This is what I am born to do.
