As a preschool teacher  you learn to help make young children smile. This is one of my students and its his first year in Head Start. My friend cried for almost two months before I could get him to smile. On this particular day I was capturing the children as they engaged in play. He runs up to me and says " Ms. Walker, you didn't take my picture". This was the first time I saw him smile while engaged with staff and children. For two months I reassured my friend that his parents were gonna come back. With the help of his parents, he is now able to transition into the class with out having a temper tantrum. This is what I am born to do.

First of all I have to say that little guy is so dang cute, I want to eat him. Be seriously, it sounds like you made a connection to him, and noticed him, I think that speaks volumes. When dealing with children that are having a hard time with transitions, it is finding a way to connect with them, good for you!

  2. Brandi,
Your post gave me chills. That had to be such an amazing feeling, to know that you were able to build that trusting relationship with this student. I'm sure it was not an easy couple months, and I would guess frustrating at times, but it shows that you truly care about what you do and I am sure it meant the world to this child and his family. It's incredible the impact that we have on our students and so very rewarding. Thanks for sharing :)
